Minister: "Don't you know that the New Testament relieves us of the burden of the Sabbath."

A. When you talk of the burden of the Sabbath, you really don't know what you are talking about. Because when you know Jesus the Lord of the Sabbath, it is a delight." [1.John 5]

Q. Is Jesus Christ the Sabbath?

A. No, this cannot be. Jesus invites us to come to Him for rest from sin. He is not the Sabbath itself but the Lord of the Sabbath. God blessed and sanctified the day not the rest. To get rest from sin, Jesus must be your present Saviour. "For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of His Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by His life. -Romans 5:10

Q. Does Colossians 2:16 do away with the Sabbath?

A. Yes, it does do away with the 7 annual Jewish ceremonial Sabbath days pointed to the Messiah and fulfilled in Christ. But not the weekly Sabbath of the 10 Commandments of which GOD Himself is the owner.

The Jewish sabbaths days were termed 'shadowy' or shadows of what is to come. When you follow a shadow, will soon hit the solid object.
The weekly Sabbath of which GOD Jesus is the Lord, is not a shadow but pointing back to creation. We all will be judged by the 10 Commandment Sabbath [James 2:10-12; Eccl. 12:13,14]

Q. Is every day the Sabbath?

A. No, 6 days shalt thou labour and do all thy work before you can and deserve a rest which connects you with GOD and Jesus in particular. In Revelation 1:10 it says that John was in the spirit on the Lords day. The only day Jesus is Lord is the Sabbath day or Saturday. He was not in the spirit receiving his Revelation on every day. God wants us to be thrifty and not lazy.

Q. Can any other day than Saturday be the Sabbath?

A. No, we cannot make a day holy, we can only keep something holy that GOD made and declared to be holy. God declared the seventh day holy which means set apart for special use.

There is not a single text in the Bible authorizing Sunday as a sacred day or any change from Saturday the seventh day of the week to Sunday the first day of the week.

Q. Is the Sabbath Jewish?

A. No, Jesus says that it is for all mankind [see Mark 2:27] and in the new earth and heaven for all flesh [see Isa.66:22,23]. The Sabbath of the 10 Commandments is the whole duty of mankind [see Eccl.12:13,14] and will be the standard in judgment [James 2:10-12] which Jesus enforced in Matthew 5:17-19. The Sabbath of the Lord Jesus was made in Eden 2500 years before the first Jew was born. The Jews like the Christian Church became later the Custodians. Jesus even distanced Himself from the Jews by saying 'they' the Jews. They had so perverted the keeping of the Sabbath that it became a burden to hard to bear.

Q. How come that most of Christianity worships on Sundays instead?

A. Christianity became perverted with paganism and in control of the Roman Empire which ruled the world at that time. Doctors of Rome such as Justin Martyr corrupted the purity of the New Testament teachings with doctrines of Mytra, the Roman state religion. He replaced the Lords supper with the Eucharist and with hatred for all Jewish substituted Saturday  the Seventh-day Sabbath with Sunday. Emperor Constantine the Great in 325 A.D. made it into law. He never called it the Sabbath, but the venerable day of the sun instead. That title still belongs to that day to this day, namely Sunday or day of the sun and not the Son. The Sabbath belongs to the Son of GOD, the Lord of the genuine Lords day.

Q. Why do so many professed Christians say that they cannot see the Sabbath in the New Testament?

A. None is so blind as the one who does not want to see, is a folk saying. Satan is also allowed to blind rejectors of truth. Jesus warned that 40 years after His death, the Sabbath day should be kept sacred and even to the end of the world [Matthew 24:20,21]. His closest followers waited with the embalming of His body til after the Sabbath and rested according to the Sabbath commandment [Luke 23:56] which tells us that the commandment is so important that Jesus Himself kept it holy by resting in His deathbed over the entire period of the Sabbath day in the grave, i.e. from Friday night until saturday night. [Before sunrise, the tomb was already empty] see Luke 24:1.

Q. What time does the Sabbath day start?

A. The Sabbath does not start at midnight, but at sunset Friday evening and finishes on Saturday evening. Papal Rome change the day and times according to prophecy found in Daniel 7:25

Q. Was the Sabbath day of the Lord Jesus Christ part of the Old Covenant that has been done away with?

A. "And He [GOD] declared unto you His covenant, which He commanded you to perform, even ten commandments; and He wrote them upon two tables of stone."--Deuteronomy 4:13

The dispensationalists doctrine makes the Ten Commandment law the old covenant that was abolished. Even though the Ten Commandments were indeed a commanded covenant, they did not constitute the old covenant which vanished away (Hebrews 8:13). Here are the reasons:
1. The old covenant was faulty, had poor promises, and vanished away (Hebrews 8:7, 8, 13). None of those points apply to the perfect law of GOD (Psalms 19:7).

2 The old covenant was made "concerning all these words" of the written law (Exodus 24:7,8). It was not the law itself.

3. Referring to the Ten Commandments, GOD said to Moses, "After the tenor of these words I have made a covenant with thee and with Israel." Exodus 34:27,28. It was not the law itself but over the keeping of the law--"the tenor of the words"-that the old covenant was made.

4. Moses referred to the golden calf as "your sin, the calf which ye have made." Deuteronomy 9:21. (Please note: The calf was not the sin, but the sin took place concerning the calf.) In the same way, the old covenant was not the law, but it was concerning the law. Thus it is called the covenant.

5. Romans 9:4 proves that the old and new covenants were different from the law itself. "Who are Israelites; to whom partaineth the adoption, and the glory, and the covenants, and the giving of the law."
         Here the law is mentioned, as well as the covenants [plural]. This would include both old and new covenants, plus the "giving of the law," which is the Ten Commandment law.

6. To prove positively that the law is not the old covenant, let's try to make the words interchangeable in Romans 3:31: "Do we then make void the [old covenant] law through faith? GOD forbid: yeah we establish the [old covenant] law." Clearly the old covenant and the law are not the same.

Q. Did the law of the Ten Commandments exist before Mt. Sinai including Christ's Sabbath as the Lord's day?

A. Deuteronomy 5:2,3 may sound that way, since verses 6-21 tell us that the Ten Commandments are the basis of the covenant. Some people content that the decalogue was never applied to anyone before the law was written at Sinai. But such a conclusion is not valid on the basis of the words of Moses to the people of Israel. He was not telling them that there had been no previous agreement about obeying the law. There had been covenants with individuals who indeed had been their forefathers, but only on a personal basis.

      At Sinai, for the very first time GOD entered into a covenant relationship with an entire nation. The evidence is all here. Cain knew that it was sin to murder. Joseph called adultery a sin, and GOD said: " Abraham obeyed My voice, and kept My charge, My commandments, My statutes and May laws." Genesis 26:5.

Q. Does the following verse used by Jehovah's Witnesses and the watchtower Society do away with the Sabbath of Jesus?

A. "But beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day." 2. Peter 3:8
Pleas note that this verse does not say that one day 'is' a thousand years. It says, that with the Lord, one day is 'as' a thousand years and a thousand years 'as' one day. The complete contents of that chapter is comparing our human memory and promises with that of GOD.
          The Psalmist put it this way: "For a thousand years in Thy sight are but as yesterday when it is past, and as a watch in the night." Psalm 90:4 Here is where the apostle Peter was quoting from.

2. Peter 3:1 speaks of by ways of 'remembrance' and verses 2-4 of the 'promise' of His coming. Verse 9 again speaks of GODs 'promise'.

Q. Why did Jesus do His healing on the Sabbath day, was it just to antagonize the Pharisees?

A. Jesus ministries restores to the Sabbath command its profound significance: the restoration of human Beings in their integrity as part of God's creation. [Luke 6:5]

Q.Why do Popular Preachers say that the Sabbath day is Jewish and of little importance instead of declaring the Lord's day of Jesus being part of the 10 Commandments and defining sin?

A. Because if they did, they would no longer be popular! Sunday is a worldly day! It binds to the World which is enmity with God [see James 4:4].

Q.: Doesn't Genesis 3:1-3 tell us that only God rested? A.: Yes this is true. Only God had worked 6 days and rested on the Seventh. Was it because He was tired or exhausted? No, God was setting the example here. Adam was only one day old and had not worked for six days. This does not mean that Adam did not keep the following Sabbath. Jesus says that the Sabbath day was made for man and we believe that Adam was a man. Mark 2:27.
 

Q. Do we need the Bible?

A. Yes, very much so.  The Bible gives the true answers to many questions including the following.  How did our earth and our existence begin?  What does the future hold for us and our planet?  What kind of God rules the universe?  How did evil begin?  Is it true that eternal life is available to us and how may we gain this most valuable gift?  Romans 15:4.  For whatsoever things were written before were written for our learning, that we through the patience and comfort of the Scriptures might have hope.

2. Q. Is the Bible reliable, truthful?

A. Yes.  Among other things its prophecies are always accurate as witnessed by events.  Its history and geography are accurate as witnessed by archaeology .  Its knowledge of man's nature is accurate as witnessed by man's experience.  Its account of nature is accurate as witnessed by scientific investigation, rightly interpreted. Psalm 111:7,8.  The works of His hands are verity and justice; all His precepts are sure, they stand fast for ever and ever, and are done in truth and uprightness.

3.  Q.  How did the Bible come into existence?

A.  The Bible was inspired by God so that we do not remain ignorant of His nature, His works and His plans.  2.Timothy 3:16  All Scriptures is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.  2.Peter 1:21  For prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.

4. Q.  What is God's advice to every man regarding His word, the Bible?

A.  We should study it so that we may come to know Jesus.  John 5:39  You search the Scriptures for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are they which testify of Me (Jesus).  Acts 17:11  These were more fair-minded than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the Word with all readiness, and searched the Scriptures daily to find out whether these things were so.  We should ask for the guidance of the Holy Spirit.  1.Cor 2:10  But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit.  For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God.

What about modern Bible translations? For a new translation to obtain copy rights, the content has to be altered 20% ! Food for thoughts? Born again Christians like to cling to the good old King James version, the received text, or at least the NKJV.

By what name did Jesus refer to the sacred writings of the Old Testament, the Bible of His day?
"Jesus said unto them, Did you never read in the Scriptures, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner?" (Matthew 21:42).

The Bible itself contains proof in itself of its divine origin. No other book can answer the questionings of the mind or satisfy the longings of the heart as does the Bible. Received by faith, it has power to transform the life.

How were the Scriptures given?
"All Scriptures were given by inspiration of God". (2.Timothy 3:16).

By whom were the men directed who spoke for God?
"For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Spirit". (2.Peter 1:21).

For what purpose was the Bible written?
"For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the Scriptures might have hope." (Romans 15:4).

What did Jesus say concerning the study of the Bible?
"Search the Scriptures, for in them you think that you have eternal life: and they are they which testify of Me." (John 5:39).

For what were the Bereans commended?
"these were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the Scriptures daily, whether those things were so." (Acts 17:11).
Note, it says nothing about laity or professional students, God wants every body to study for themselves to think that you might have eternal life.

Who alone comprehends the things of God?
"For what man knows the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knows no man, but the Spirit of God." (1.Corinthians 2:11).

How thoroughly does the Spirit search out the hidden treasures of truth?
"But God has revealed them unto us by His Spirit: for the Spirit searches all things, yea, the deep things of God." (Ibid verse 10).

Why cannot the natural man receive the things of the Spirit?
"But the natural man receives not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them because they are spiritually discerned." (1.Cor.2:14).
